PEFC Canada represents organizations in Canada that have certified their forestry operations to the PEFC-endorsed Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) standard, as well as organizations and businesses that are certified to the PEFC International Chain of Custody Standard.
Canada has been a member of PEFC International since 2001. The CSA SFM standard (CAN/CSA-Z809), first published in 1996 and revised three times since, has been endorsed by PEFC since March 2005. The current version of the CSA SFM standard was assessed and re-endorsed by PEFC International in March 2018, with the next review of the standard to commence by 16 September 2021.
PEFC Canada offers the use of the international PEFC Chain of Custody certification standard and is authorized to issue rights to use the PEFC label to qualified organizations in Canada. PEFC Chain of Custody certification together with the PEFC on-product label provides an assurance that wood and paper products are sourced from sustainably managed forests.
A material safety data sheet (MSDS), safety data sheet (SDS),[1] or product safety data sheet (PSDS) is an important component of product stewardship and occupational safety and health. It is intended to provide workers and emergency personnel with procedures for handling or working with that substance in a safe manner, and includes information such as physical data (melting point, boiling point, flash point, etc.), toxicity, health effects, first aid, reactivity, storage, disposal, protective equipment, and spill-handling procedures. MSDS formats can vary from source to source within a country depending on national requirements.
Recommendations for the Design and Operation of Wood Preservation Facilities, 2013 Technical Recommendations Document
In 1984, Environment Canada, as part of a federal strategy to protect the environment and human health from potentially toxic commercial chemicals, evaluated use practices within the wood preservation industry. The Department subsequently initiated a technical steering committee to develop technical recommendations for facility design and operations.
